New York City’s Commercial
Waste Zoning Law
On November 20, 2019, Local Law 199 was enacted, requiring the establishment of twenty commercial waste zones throughout New York City. This law permits up to three waste and recycling carters to operate within each zone. The Department of Sanitation will assign zones to eligible haulers, after which New York City commercial establishments will be obligated to engage with one of the waste and recycling providers within their designated zone.
