If your backyard boring, with nothing but a bunch of overgrown weeds and an old shed that you’re afraid to enter? It’s not as uncommon as you’d think to see that. That is the reason that a lot of people are doing backyard makeovers, and making their backyard into a retreat that allows them to escape the chaos of life and just relax. If you plan on taking down that spider-infested shed this year, here are a few things to keep in mind.
Tip #1: Be Prepared for Bugs
One of the best places for a bug infestation is where it remains cool and dark, and above all, undisturbed. This allows a small bug home to become a large luxury, shadow-front condo for all types of creepy crawlies. If you plan on taking down your shed, and you have not been in there in some time, then you need to be prepared with heavy duty bug spray on, and shoes that will allow you to move away from the shed quickly should a family of wasps come out to investigate what you are doing to their home. Make sure your clothing is grubby so it can go in the trash when you are done, and make sure you have tight sleeves and pants so that bugs don’t crawl up your skin or fly up your pant-leg and bite or sting you.
Tip #2: Have Someplace to Throw the Old So You Can Bring In the New
Getting rid of the old shed once it’s been torn down is important, especially if there was something living in it. The sooner you get that out of your backyard, the sooner the area can clear up and you can bring in whatever you plan to have replacing that eyesore. If all you are going to do is lay down some bricks and creating a patio, then you should wait for the ground to be dry and pest-free before you get started. However, if you are doing more, then you may need to wait for your newly uprooted inhabitants to find new homes elsewhere.
Tip #3: Make Sure You Toss Out Anything That Got Covered in That Bug Spray
If you ended up having to use the heavy-duty bug spray, make sure that along with the shed, you toss out anything that was saturated with it. You do not want to bring that back into your house and make anyone sick, so when you rid your backyard of that old shed, toss the clothing you wore and anything that was inside the shed, out with it. Having a dumpster rented before you start the tear-down process makes this entire endeavor easier as you can bring the old shed right to the dumpster, toss your old clothing in there when done, and go straight inside to shower off any residue.
When you are ready to take back your backyard, then make sure you take a few steps to be ready, first. If you wait until you have started to think of what you need, you are going to end up with a much bigger mess on your hands!
